On Sunday, Mary Kom will compete for her sixth gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championships.
MC Mary Kom (51kg), a six-time world champion, will compete
in the Asian Boxing Championships final on Sunday against Kazakhstan's Nazym
Kyzaibay in the women's 51kg division.
On Thursday, the 38-year-old Olympic hopeful Mary Kom
defeated Mongolia's Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg 4-1 in the semifinals. In the
summit clash, she will go up against Kyzaibay, a two-time world champion.
Pooja Rani, another Olympic hopeful who had a walk-over in
the semi-finals, will face an in-form Mavluda Movlonova of Uzbekistan, who
defeated London Olympics medalist Marina Volnova in the last four stage.
In their individual finals, Anupama (+81kg) and Lalbuatsahi
(64kg) will fight formidable Kazakh boxers.
In the men's gold-medal fights on Monday, reigning champion
Amit Panghal (52kg), Shiva Thapa (64kg), and Sanjeet (91kg) will compete.
Panghal will compete against Uzbekistan's Zoirov
Shakhobidin, the 2016 Rio Olympics and world champion, while Thapa will compete
against Mongolia's Baatarsukh Chinzorig, the Asian Games silver medalist.
Sanjeet, the second seed, will face Vassiliy Levit, the 2016
Rio Olympics silver medalist, who is pursuing his fourth gold medal of the
Asian Championships.
The Indian boxers have already secured their greatest-ever
performance by winning an astounding 15 medals, surpassing their previous best
of 13 (2 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze) from the 2019 tournament.
The prize money for this championship has been set at
$4,00,000.00 by the International Boxing Association (AIBA). Men's and women's
gold medalists will each get $10,000, while silver and bronze medalists will
get $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.
Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Jaismine
(57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64kg), Monika (48kg), Saweety (81kg) are the women's
bronze medalists, while Vikas Krishan (69kg) and Varinder Singh (60kg) are the
men's bronze medalists.
